Biography
Rich grew up by the sea in Dorset, where the outdoors and water sports on the Jurassic Coast shaped his love for sport and leisure, which he later pursued at university. However, while studying at Cardiff and Leeds, he picked up his uncle's old nylon-string guitar and found himself playing more than studying, setting the stage for his eventual music career. At 28, he began writing songs for family events, such as his sister's wedding and his Nan’s 90th birthday. A "song a week" challenge with a friend sparked his quirky songwriting style, resulting in tracks like "Same Time" and "Bee Song" and leading him to form the band 'Rich Austin and the Maestros.'
Now based in London, Rich has toured globally, from the local London scene, including Sofar Sounds gigs, to recording in Germany with Enrico Wolf (Marteria, KRS-One) and promoting a film soundtrack in Brazil. His soundtrack for *Brothers in Football* aired on ITV. Rich has written three albums, with a fourth on the way. His single "National Heroes Shine," a tribute to the NHS during the pandemic, was featured on BBC, ITV, and TalkSport for the NHS's 72nd birthday. His upcoming album addresses topics like AI's impact on the arts. Rich's music blends quirky pop-rock with a sense of unpredictability.
